@momabreu: Three things I do while working: 1️⃣ Posture Reset Sit up tall, engage your core, pull your shoulders back, and think about lengthening your spine. 2️⃣ Seated Figure 4 Stretch Cross one ankle over the opposite knee and gently lean forward. Repeat on both sides to stretch the hips and glutes. Hold as long as I can. 3️⃣ Seated Hip Extension Slide forward in your chair, tighten your abs and glutes, then gently push your hips forward to open the front of your hips. It feels similar to a glute bridge and helps counteract hours of sitting. ✨ I’ve found that adding these small movement breaks throughout my workday helps me feel less stiff, stay consistent with my recovery, and finish the day feeling stronger than if I stayed in one position all day. #herniateddisc #backpainrelief #worklife #backpainexercises #deskjob

People find it so hard to believe, but sitting can be one of the hardest parts to living with herniated discs. Flying is absolutely dreadful.

The big problem is that your feet don’t hit the floor. Build the floor up to you and then provide yourself with some lumbar support for quick relief. I would also change positions ending a desk if at all possible. Reach out with further questions. Hope that helps.

L5 s1 in April. I am a trial paralegal and work average 12-15 hour days. This is brutal, i had to get up every 15 minutes and go for a walk. Has an epidural end of may and thank god about 80% better for now. I’m investing in an adjustable standing desk very soon

You need your hips to be higher than your knees to take the load off of the spine. Highly recommend ordering one of these (obvi putting it flat side up). And standing desk so you can alternate. Even if you don’t have pain, you should stand every so often to prevent excessive load on the spine!

Im thinking my scaitica may be a herniated disk cause I do the same all day as well. Upcoming MRI will hopefully show me. I did Xrays with the chiropractor the other year but those were not enough I think.

Are you employed? If so, your employer should be carrying out a proper workstation assessment and providing appropriate equipment. Don’t take your spinal health for granted, I had herniated discs and stenosis for a decade and carried on working my desk job throughout. It progressed to Cauda Equina Syndrome last year and now my bladder and bowel don’t work.

Awe, I’m sorry! I'm 4 days post-op from my microdiscectomy. Still in pain but can finally sit without the nerve pain. Hopefully you can get relief soon.

I couldn’t sit. I had to lay on the floor with my feet up to find relief from my herniated disc. I was L4-L5 disc.

You need an actual supportive chair. One that is adjustable, a proper cushion and lumbar support.

Haha I used to do the same thing before I had the microdiscectomy. It’s not super comfortable to sit all day while working. I have to stretch and get up like every 30 minutes. But I’m not in crippling pain like before
