@kristina.gat: Day 105: Restraining Pediatric Patients 🦷✨ It can be really scary for parents to see a child being restrained. But the goal is to keep the child safe, make the dental procedure easier, and prevent accidents. When a child is restrained, their hands are gently secured underneath them and they are wrapped in a soft cloth to limit movement. We usually use a papoose board. With the help of our assistants, we make sure the child’s head is still and that they can still move comfortably inside the board. It’s understandable to feel scared hearing your child cry and try to move. That’s why, as dentists, we always explain how the procedure is done and why it’s necessary, and how it can actually help your child. Many parents worry that restraining may cause trauma. But in most cases, the opposite happens. Once restrained, children often feel more secure and relaxed. Because they can’t move around, they tend to listen better. And when they realize it’s safe and not scary, they calm down. Sometimes they even fall asleep during the procedure. So the next time you visit the dentist, don’t hesitate to ask about options if you think your child might be uncooperative.
