Coming from a center snare, you are marking time for the whole band, but the center snare is marking time for you. Keep an eye on your center snare to help mark time. The echoes can be confusing especially while in front of all that sound. Work with your drum line and it will make the entire band sound super crisp.

Band director here. For the crescendos I’d go with an open palm and not a point. Save points for cues. Also could be a bit snappier on your cutoff since this is a pretty snappy excerpt. Great job overall!

open hand is easier to read. and make that final move sharp! thats the last thing the judges really see. make it snap not just a "whew finally done" make it a "and that sir was my band!"

Your hands are at different levels it seems your right hand is higher then your left evening that out helps us ok the field see the down beats a lot better

Former DM here - just remember your movements, energy, and accuracy need to be felt at the furthest end of the field. Work on basic technique before adding any additional conducting markings.

hiii i was a drum major for my senior year i recently graduated, and i see your arms need to be more inward, higher and a little more stiff. don’t let your arms go past your belly button and for the crescendos, open hands/palm are preferred and to emphasize it you can kind of let your arm go more back and swoop up that way you don’t move your body the way you’re doing. Your down beats for 1 & 2 are good but make sure the downbeat for 1 is always the same, don’t change the height of your hand that is still conducting when you do the crescendos but for 3 & 4 it’s too small since your arms are going too low. think of 3 & 4 as a little bit of a bigger triangle or a higher W shape. focus on keeping your arms higher and stiffer. overall enjoy it and don’t let anyone ruin your fun!! CONGRATULATIONS🥰

Hey girly, 5th year drum major in college here! You’re doing an awesome job keeping time but I have a few tips and tricks! 1)Bring your hands up higher on 1 and have those palms face outwards for a split second(frame your face with them). It’s easier for the band to see an open palm vs fingertips. 2)Land a little harder/firmer on your downbeats, you don’t wanna be too loose when you come down. Powerful downbeats help keep the band in line. 3)Make sure your hands are always level with one another. 4)Make cutoffs sharp and as easy to read as possible. 5)When crescendoing, use an open, face up palm and move it evenly/smoothly. 6)EXUDE CONFIDENCE!! You already have a lot of this naturally; a confident drum major makes for a confident band!! Good luck out there! Here’s a pic of me my freshman year of college, enjoy it while it lasts!

Being drum major in high school was the best 2 years of my life. Look up the Drum Major Academy and go if you can - AMAZING leadership and conducting training!

So… you’re counting 2/4 wrong, on the second beat, your hands should go out and not in
