I just think its insufferable when you have a random playlist playing… and someone controversial comes up, and you have the worst person ever in the back be like “ermmm excuse me… did you know this artist is actually really problematic… you need to skip this or youre racist” im not saying youre wrong I just think we have to think of people’s intentions when we’re talking about this. Does the person just love and support the artist as a person? Or do they just kinda like that one thing. That temper city song came on in the car and my fiancee obviously doesnt know about the Israel stuff. She was so excited, she was like “I LOVE this song! Have you heard this? Its all over my tiktok” It would be wrong of me to “erm actually” and ruin that experience for her. Theres just a time and place, and I hope you agree with that at least.

I agree that we shouldn’t ignore serious wrongdoing just because we like someone’s work but I just think the Messi example deserves more context, in 2013 (Barcelona squad with Messi) visited both Palestinian and Israeli territories as part of a peace outreach, their message was simple, make peace we’re all equal, If we’re asking people not to consume things uncritically, we should also be careful not to present examples without their full context, Free Palestine!, justice and peace to everyone!

i get ot what your saying but personally the line i draw is i wont feel post guilt about enjoying art from someone i thought was a good person and turned out not to example i loved the sand man but after i found out about the author i stopped consuming his art BUT i also refuse to feel guilty for enjoying it before i knew bc i dont have time to run background checks on every actor writer director singer or author so yes i agree but im not going to accept shame bc i gave a complete stranger the benefit doubt before there were any warning signs that i knew of
