Old video of Wike condemning foreign education surfaces after son bags degree from UK varsity An old video of Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike condemning foreign education for some courses of study has surfaced online days after he celebrated his son bagging a Master’s degree from a university in the United Kingdom. Wike, who was then Governor of Rivers State, was answering a question about a policy to educate repentant militants during an appearance on ‘Sunrise Daily’ programme on Channels Television. He said it was not necessary to study courses like law, English Language or economics abroad as Nigerian universities had robust faculties for such programmes. “For some of these courses, you don’t need to send them (ex-militants) abroad. “What we said in our own case is, why do you need to send somebody who wants to study English overseas? Why do you need to send somebody who wants to study economics overseas? Why do you need to send someone who wants to read law overseas? When you know we have very good faculties in these areas in Nigerian universities. “We thought if we’re going to send you overseas, it must be for peculiar, very clear areas that we lack and we want our people to go and study, maybe some areas of engineering, medicine, agriculture, ICT,” Wike said.
