The Labour government is fast-tracking the construction of nine new major reservoirs across England by 2050. This massive £7.9 billion water infrastructure project is the first of its kind in over 30 years. These new water storage facilities will hold massive amounts of water to prevent shortages during hot, dry summers.Where are they being built?First Phase: Planning is being fast-tracked for two major reservoirs in Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire (which includes a huge new reservoir near Abingdon, Oxford).Other Sites: Additional projects are planned in Somerset, Hampshire, Kent, Suffolk, and the West Midlands. Why is this happening? The UK hasn't built a major reservoir since 1992. Over the decades, the population has grown and climate change has led to more unpredictable weather. These new projects aim to secure water supplies for 750,000 homes. They also unlock land to allow for the construction of tens of thousands of new houses. If you want to know more, I can tell you:Which specific projects are planned closest to your local areaWhy some of these projects are facing local oppositionHow these reservoirs help the UK handle climate changeLet me know what you would like to explore next.Labour to build new reservoirs for the first time since 199229 Jan 2025 — Chancellor Rachel Reeves has backed the development of new fewer than nine new reservoirs unlocking some £7.9 billion in investment. by Jack Peat. 2025-01-29 13...The London EconomicLabour Government steps in to build new reservoirs for the first time ...29 May 2025 — Labour Government steps in to build new reservoirs for the first time in 30 years.

Britain must be way ahead at the top of the league for failing to prepare, not just water, with everything, back to the water as you say we are surrounded by water , it’s a complete joke

And, apparently these data centres will use the same amount of water as 50k houses! And you know damn well, they will have priority… 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️

One of the main problems is that water companies are just there for their shareholders and their pockets! They are not investing and aren't bothered if we fail!

its worse than that ..they have actively closed reservoirs because they needed serious repairs due to no maintenance being done on them ..all cost cutting to pay bonuses and dividends
my area had seven ..now just the two biggest are left ..we never had water outages ..now its every year because the network dosnt have enough resilience

Every year Thames water bill goes up and it’s a huge bill a huge increase. Do the job you’re paid to do with your huge salaries and bonuses. Why should we lose all our expensive flowers and shrubs it’s outrageous.
