I think this is illuminating in understanding why this type of music is so rare. In order to be trusted with the resources to have full brass, full strings, best of the best musicians on the record, you have to already be a hit maker so the label knows it’ll sell. That’s why if young Bruno comes in with a guitar and plays this song, no way it gets cut to a record. That’s why the silk sonic album is a unicorn in today’s music landscape

Love the honest perspective of “would I sign it if just one guy came in and played it on guitar.” Makes you wonder how many agents have missed out on mega-hits because time is limited and they don’t get the full song

Bruno Mars’ dad was in a doo wop group that performed in Waikiki for decades. They performed with the Elvis impersonators so I’m sure he was exposed to a huge range of music with that has influenced a lot of stuff he’s been putting out recently. He’s been getting nostalgic.
