Why Are Gourds So Loved in Chinese Culture? While designing a new collection for Living Crystal Art, I kept thinking: what Eastern symbol could truly carry a wish? I found my answer in the gourd — Hulu (葫芦). In Chinese culture, the gourd is more than a plant. Its name is traditionally associated with Fulu (福禄) — blessings, good fortune, and prosperity. Its winding vines and abundant fruits also symbolize growth, continuity, and life. In ancient China, dried gourds were used to hold water, wine, herbs, and medicine. Over time, they became connected with traditional medicine and Daoist culture, carrying meanings of well-being, longevity, protection, and blessings. But my favorite idea is: 壶中天地 · Hú Zhōng Tiān Dì “A world within the vessel.” Something small can hold an entire world. That inspired our gourd-shaped intention bottle. We layer natural crystals, flowers, and botanicals inside. Then you write a small note: What do I wish for right now? Who do I hope to become? Fold it gently and place it inside. It isn’t a magical object that promises to change your destiny. Instead, it is a vessel for your intention — a small reminder of what matters to you and where you want to go. A little gourd. A world within. Holding nature, meaning, and a wish of your own. If you could place one wish inside your gourd today, what would you write? #LivingCrystalArt #ChineseCulture #EasternWisdom #Hulu #IntentionBottle
