everything is a threat, nice or unpleasant, for people who don't really know how to love themselves. "can't love something that is silly and insignificant, I MUST NOT be silly and insignificant". funny enough that's exactly what makes em boring.

I kind of saw where you were coming from until you just went full anti-intellectualism. Allowing people to just stay "dumb" is extremely dangerous to both the person and society; some level of competence is needed to get through life and its complexity, like voting and policies. Otherwise, the people will just vote another monster into office that exploits them and ruins everyone's lives, not just the "dumb" people.

Bro you’re defining intelligence as you speak. Defining intelligence is hard. Because I think it’s an umbrella term for multiple qualities such as: curiosity, critical thinking, reasoning, pattern recognition, creativity, metacognition, etc. Intelligence isn’t about always winning arguments or being a “successful” person, it’s about being willing to examine ideas honestly, question assumptions, and follow evidence.

Most people should not make arguments about how high vs. low intelligent people behave. Most of these arguments are purely based off of their observation which is innately subjective. There are many intelligent people who embody characteristics that are deemed to be unintelligent, and vice versa; therefore, any predictions made about someone’s intelligence are invalid.

I think high intelligence is reflected in a person’s ability to reconstruct their worldview when reality no longer matches it. It’s incredibly difficult most people would rather cling to a familiar explanation than acknowledge, well My mental model was incomplete

C’mon dude, it’s extremely tacky to pronounce to everyone that you’re intelligent. Perceptive people usually pick up on it anyway just through conversation. If someone doesn’t see it, that’s okay as well. This is coming from someone that’s perceived as “slow” to most, but the irony is that the most intelligent people I know have said “there’s something more to him”.

fun fact: deeming someone’s intelligence as average (!) is one of the most effective ways to threaten the sense of self worth. literally used in psych studies

I can see why. no one wants to be dumb, most people think they aren't dumb and it's one of those things that are so easy to seem like a pretentious prick about. i kind of wish that genetic traits like smarts and looks (at a base level) could be worked on in a straight forward way so that this stigma would disappear. Absolute labels will always create the most insecurity because it feels like it's an inherent flaw or merit that you either do or don't have.

Intelligence needs a definition. Intelligence is a relative value. It’s often equated with IQ or academic success or even business success. I wouldn’t necessarily draw those lines between dumb and intelligent. It’s closer to an open mind with strong critical thought that is quick to adapt. It’s also a simple label people slap on a group considered eccentric overthinkers. Or people who fixate narrowly. Close to the idea of a nerd, probably. People might be more receptive to that convo is you frame it around a soft pejorative like nerd or geek. That way it comes off self-effacing instead of “woe is me, I am surrounded by dummies.”

I’ve never seen a person being accepted saying that they’re smart. It’s always “A smart person wouldn’t feel the need to say they’re smart”. Okay, so smart people don’t recognise they’re smart or are they not allowed to voice it or what? How are they supposed to express what they’ve noticed about themselves? When a person says they are dumb it’s “Oh, only a smart person can recognise how much they don’t know. You are so smart”. And people saying they are attractive/beautiful doesn’t get the same reaction. Even if the person’s face isn’t visible, people would respect the saying that they’re beautiful. People are so uncomfortable that we don’t have an exact measurement of intelligence and don’t understand it fully. IQ doesn’t make the whole picture at all. Formal education doesn’t either. And yet they are the best measurement we have so we have to give at least some credit to that and get comfortable with not fully grasping it

You could be the most intelligent person in the world and accomplish nothing. You'd be more useless than the dumb person who's done more for themselves and their community. Intelligence means nothing if it isn't backed by anything other people can see or benefit from.

Don’t we struggle to understand how to measure intelligence to this day. A lot of people just wanna hear a solid figure or something concrete.
