@nic.hulscher: 🚨NEW STUDY: Eating 2 kiwis a day increased skin density by 48% and epidermal cell regeneration by 30% in just 8 weeks. Vitamin C levels significantly increased in the blood, skin fluid, and epidermal tissue—improving overall skin structure from the inside out.
Highly questionable explanation of study sponsored by Zespri, the company that sells SunGold kiwifruit.
* Only participants with low vitamin C levels showed measurable improvement.
* The benefit is attributable to correcting vitamin C deficiency, not to any unique property of SunGold kiwis.
* Any vitamin C-rich fruit or food that restores low vitamin C levels would be expected to produce similar effects.
* The study did not show that eating kiwis improves skin in people who already have adequate vitamin C levels. improvements in visible skin appearance or apply broadly to the general population.

I trust that the vitamin C from two green bell peppers would have many advantages over the kiwis 🥝 as the green bell peppers have lower Glycemic Index...

• It was a pilot study — the intervention arm was very small. At the intervention site where both blood and skin sampling were done, the full cohort was n=12. Tiny samples produce unstable, easily-overstated percentages.
• The effect was specifically in patients with low baseline vitamin C status. If you already have adequate vitamin C, you shouldn’t expect the same jump — this is correcting a deficiency, not a universal upgrade.

Man, I don’t know what to believe with all these studies they come out with. I don’t know who funded them. I don’t know who paid the scientist. I don’t know if they’re just making this whole thing up.

A small study found that eating two golden kiwis every day for eight weeks increased vitamin C levels in the skin and improved markers of skin structure and cell renewal. Ultrasound measurements showed a 48% increase in skin-density readings, but that does not mean the skin became 48% thicker or that wrinkles improved by 48%—it means the skin produced a stronger structural signal on the ultrasound scan.
