Something I’ve noticed is these therapist content creators like Blake actually don’t have a ton of experience. It’s the newer therapists that feel emboldened to give their “hot takes” & overshare, but it feels performative rather than authentic to me. More experienced therapists can see the ethical issues more clearly. That’s not to say they shouldn’t make money, but it’s more about this performing authenticity that is the red flag for me.

Psychotherapy isn’t a commodity that you can peddle like some life coaches believe.. hate to tell you most curative aspects of therapy doesn’t occur in a weekend retreat or a ted talk style conference..

credentials keep patients save and clinicians accountable... I dont care who makes more money than me, I know im better at my craft. the education and credentialing helps me safe too.

Therapists are not a life coach and a life coach is not a therapist. Just wait till their licensure boards hear about what they're doing, especially if they keep their licensure active.

It's not even 20% of the education. There are no ethical or moral regulations. What other field could this exist in? There are no "law coaches", or "architecture coaches". Its insane

While I can appreciate your take, i hate that we have to market and commodify ourselves to make a decent living. Like we go through so much schooling training and work. It’s unfair that we then have to think about branding ourselves and literally creating another job/career out of our expertise. I became a therapist because I don’t want to be a social media influencer. It’s not about willingness to take the risk. It’s about that fact that we’re tired 😂

I’d rather make less money and work to create real healing, not put a bandaid on an emotional wound. Coaching helps some people, but what we need is stricter guidelines and a licensing board for coaching. Raise the bar instead of lowering it.
