@nationalunityplatform01: The admiral, Oyai Deng Ajak, was born on 16 October 1962 in what is now Upper Nile State, South Sudan. He received his early education in Malakal before joining the struggle for the liberation of Southern Sudan. He joined the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in 1984 and graduated with the rank of Captain. Throughout the liberation war, he served on several major frontlines, where he earned a reputation as an effective and capable military commander. His success in numerous operations led to his appointment by Dr. John Garang as Chief of General Staff, succeeding Salva Kiir Mayardit after Kiir assumed greater political responsibilities within the SPLM/A. Among the major military campaigns associated with General Oyai were the battles of Achua (near Nimule), as well as the liberation of Yei, Rumbek, and Kapoeta. His battlefield leadership established him as one of the SPLA's most accomplished commanders and one of Dr. John Garang's most trusted generals. Following the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), General Oyai served as Chief of General Staff of the SPLA from 2005 to 2009. He later served as Minister for Regional Cooperation from 2009 until South Sudan's independence in 2011. On 10 July 2011, one day after South Sudan gained independence, he was appointed to establish the National Security Service (NSS), laying the foundation for the country's national intelligence institution. In 2014, General Oyai was accused of treason in connection with the political crisis that erupted in December 2013. The charges were subsequently dropped, and he was released. General Oyai Deng Ajak is widely recognized for his professionalism, discipline, and distinguished military career. Supporters regard him as one of the SPLA's most decorated commanders and a patriotic servant of South Sudan, while his legacy, like that of many senior military leaders, remains part of the country's broader history.
