Kind of reminds me of Christopher Mccandless, Into the Wild. Maybe he just didn’t want to be part of suburbia anymore, was disillusioned with money. This happens to intelligent people.

Genuine question. Is the way she is talking normal to you? “Two weeks later he would have an aunt pass away”. You mean two weeks later his aunt passed away? Her past, present and further tense jumps around. “They had thought” instead of they thought. I think she just overused the word “would”. Is this colloquial?

I saw a missing kid so I called the number. I myself was a kid and had to go get my parents and then got in big trouble. He lived down the block from me and I played with him all the time. School started a couple of weeks later but he didn't come back.
