for everyone concerned in the comments, please empathize and rationalize for a second that 90-100% of these scientists love these animals so much they made it their dedicated career. This isn’t some government run “tag the whale” game or some weekly “I love whales” phase people go through, these people have went to college and/or school to be able to do this because they want these animals alive and well.
