Saying they shouldn’t have apologised for something like this isn’t really the right message to send. They made a mistake and they’ve apologised as it’s something taken very seriously, a lack of accountability would have escalated the situation entirely. This shows more responsibility and respect towards those that were deeply offended and stems as a learning experience for everyone.
