I love audiobooks and I listen to them a lot… you are getting a story in the oldest format… before reading and writing, all stories were told orally (be cool). I wouldn’t call listening to an audiobook “reading” since reading is an actual teachable skill. But, I also wouldn’t criticize anyone saying they were reading a book but are actually listening to it…

Audiobooks are a valid way to enjoy the media, but strictly speaking on the actual skill/ability it isn't reading. Just like being able to orally tell a story isn't the same as writing. When checking to make sure someone can read they aren't going to base it off your listening skills. Again this is not hate on audio books nor those who listen to them instead of physically reading a book, please enjoy your books in whatever form you like because at the end of the day reading or listening to a book is still great mental stimulation and can help with your cognitive abilities

sometimes its the only option when life is crazy. I can "read" my audiobook while I'm doing everything else I need to do in the day. its my happy place ☺️
