@kelseyalfred: Replying to @averagegrandpa 🩶✨ hip replacement recovery: day 3 šŸ’™ I wasn’t expecting the pain to be like this… šŸ¤ One thing that’s surprised me the most is how different my recovery has felt compared to what I’ve heard from so many other people. Before surgery, I saw countless stories saying hip replacement recovery wasn’t nearly as painful as they expected. That just hasn’t been my experience. Today I’m talking about the level of pain I’ve been dealing with, how different every recovery journey can be, and why it’s so important not to compare your healing to someone else’s. If your recovery hasn’t looked like everyone else’s, you’re not alone. 🩶 #H#HipReplacementRecoveryH#HipReplacementA#AnteriorHipReplacementC#ChronicPainSticklerSyndrome

Like others say, everyone is different, don’t compare. And the recovery is not linear. This is not a race. Take your time at your own pace.

Day 17 for me. It 100% hurts week 1. Week 2 better but not amazing. Moving into week 3, maximum strength Tylenol only and pain tolerable.

My experience was the same as yours! When I woke up from anesthesia the pain was so bad I was crying and shaking and they also had to get me on stronger stuff just to get me up. I’m almost 9 weeks in now and it’s better but I’m still not skipping through flower fields pain free

I would also like to add that depending on WHY you need the replacement makes a huge difference with recovery.

Everybody’s journey is different. Some people have had zero pain and some people experience a lot. My first few days I had very little pain, but I think that was because my spinal block was built working. On about day three and four my pain became pretty bad. I am on day 10 right now and my hip flexor and quad are very very sore. People should not get too worked up or this video because everybody’s pain and pain tolerance is different. Hopefully you can get some relief. Keep icing it and keep taking the painkillers for a few more days for a few more days. That’s what I would suggest, because that’s worked for me.

I also have Stickler syndrome, and it’s something almost no one understands or can relate to because it’s so under diagnosed and has very little research I have to educate almost every doctor I see. I LIVE EVERYDAY IN PAIN ALL OVER MY BODY but like you mentioned in many videos bc the person is ā€œyoungā€ or someone is ā€œgood lookingā€ there’s no way they live in pain and it doesn’t get taken as seriously as it should sometimes. Five months ago I had screws removed from my hip, and the recovery was a lot harder and more painful than my doctor expected. I was supposed to be walking the same day or the next, but I couldn’t take a single step with out crying and without crutches until day 6 or 7. My recovery also took about three weeks longer than originally expected because some people with Stickler syndrome just don’t heal or experience pain the same way. It can be very hard and I absolutely understand. I have to have a hip replacement eventually as well and watching you the last few month’s has been very refreshing. Thank you so much for advocating for people with stickler syndrome. I hope you start to feel some relief soon and can’t wait for updates! I’m curious to see how it feels to finally have those achy bones out.

I’m so sad that you are suffering. We are all different and need to have the same outcome. I’m going in on Monday. I truly appreciate you telling your journey. Rest and heal. The time for you to shine will come.

Day 7 for me…hip replacement posterior approach. I am 44 years old. I struggled the first couple of days. The pain was excruciating. I too had to double up on my oxycodone as well. Over the past couple of days, the pain has subsided but for some reason the pain is the worst at night. I make sure to ice throughout the day. I purchased a cold therapy machine specific for hip replacements from Amazon and it has helped tremendously. I have PT scheduled 3xs weekly. I ice and take meds before my PT and ice afterwards, then ice again before bed and take my pain meds.

Everyone’s pain sensation and tolerance is just how your brain is wired….this is so variable between people. Pain has an objective component too….muscle and nerve functions are all affected by this procedure. I had both hips done and had different pains from each procedure. Example…for the left, I had no issues getting in and out of bed. For the right, it was excruciating to lift my right leg up for almost 7 days. Walking no issue,it was just that one movement. I transitioned to a a NSAID….from Oxy….did not really affect anything….Tylenol was actually more effective…which is odd because it acts differently on pain receptors. So…hang in there. Everyone is an anomaly!

I pray the pain starts getting better for you. probably a silly question but have you tried reaching out to your doctor's office to explain your situation? I have been able to email and leave messages for my doctor. I will pray things get better.

Day three was the worst day for me. I cried that whole day every time I put weight on it. They had me on an extra strength Tylenol, extra strength, ibuprofen, and oxycodone every four hours. On day three and four I took two oxycodone every four hours. I’m three weeks out today. My pain is completely gone.

My pain was excruciating also. I had 2 back fusions and my physical therapist told my it was because my nerves were shot from the back surgery. My last back surgery wasn’t even a year ago. I was in so much pain after my hip replacement that I passed out the second day. I feel you. I know how you feel. I am 3 weeks post op and I still can’t lift my left leg from the side up.b( like a clam shell). Hang in there. It will start to get better.
