Not every dog can do this, and not every trainer can or should. With the owners' permission, I used Bishop to help communicate a lesson to Ryder. Dogs naturally understand other dogs better than they understand us. The goal wasn't to make Ryder love every dog she sees-it was to teach her that she doesn't need to react to every dog she sees. Before training, a simple neighborhood walk was nearly impossible. Seeing another dog meant lunging, pulling, and trying to start conflict. Through obedience work and carefully controlled sessions with Bishop, Ryder learned a valuable lesson: not every dog is a threat, and not every situation requires a reaction. Also notice how Bishop's corrections increase in intensity throughout the video. He starts with the minimum amount of pressure necessary and only escalates when Ryder chooses not to listen. That's how dogs naturally communicate with one another. Will I tell these owners to take her to a dog park and expect her to be everyone's best friend? Absolutely not. But can we give her a better quality of life by helping her calmly walk past another dog across the street? Absolutely.
