@bysarby_: links in bio check me out 🫡 | My(32F) parents are giving us $150k for a house and my husband(35M) wants to turn it down because they asked for a postnup #sarby
If he doesn’t plan on leaving, why would it be an issue for him?

Yeah, the husband is taking it too personally. And maybe the parents are seeing something she’s not.

if its just - if you get divorced, wife gets the $150,000 back from the house sale first before splitting the sale between the 2. I dont see why that would be a problem

I’m with the parents on this one. $150,000 is a lot of money and if a prenup isn’t signed, their daughter could lose everything to him.

If he's never planning on leaving, he shouldn't be concerned. Sounds sus.

prenups and post nups are there to protect both parties. As long as they are fair to the couple and represent both of their interests, I don't see a problem with them.

My in laws did the same and with me- being okay with the postnup immediately made them comfortable giving the money without it.

if it was a condition like the parents had to be involved or owned a portion of the house, that's one thing, but the condition solely benefits the daughter and she gets financial safety, so there shouldn't be an issue here.

Husband is wrong, it's wife money, like an early inheritance.

If he truly loves her then he’d understand and want to protect her family’s investment knowing her Aunt’s situation. It is concerning to me that he only came to her after about it. Did he talk to someone about it? Is he trying to emotionally manipulate her into thinking he’s right?

he has nothing to lose, she has 150k to lose. I don't think he should make the call on that one

“my parents are giving us” if the parents are asking for a postnuptial they are ONLY giving the $150k to the daughter. which is fine, but don’t word it like it’s a gift for both when it’s not.

The money should be guaranteed to stay with her of course the parents have that as a requirement. The fact that he sees a problem with it is concerning

I wonder how the husband would feel if he had saved 150 grand for his daughter wouldn’t he also want protections for her?

This is completely reasonable. It’s weird the husband is against it. He’ll still get equity in the house and a HUGE downpayment with no loss to him. This is def a pride thing.

Prenups and postnups are insurance forms (or at least how I see it). You already have to get a bunch of different types of insurance when you get a house, this is just one more

Take the trust out of the equation. Statistically, how many husbands cheat?

If you're in a healthy marriage that doesn't look to end anytime soon, there shouldn't be an issue signing a fair post nup.

If things fall apart and they do separate, it wasn’t his or hers money in the first place. You had a good ride. He walks away from money that was never theirs. Maybe she gets to keep it, oh well, so be it.

I’m always team legal paperwork. I think EVERYONE should have a prenup (or in this case a post nup bc something drastic changed in their finances) so ik I’m biased. With that said if you know/believe nothing is going to change why would you shoot down basically free money for just a piece of paper?

it's the Bay area... take the money and sign the post nup. parents JUST WANT the 150k to go back to their daughter. homes here are Millions if he plans on leaving he will still make money. (I live here in the Bay area) saving up for the down payment can take YEARS and your competing with LLC's 90% of the time who have unlimited funds buying up all the homes. California is very 50/50 so he won't be losing much truly
