When I got divorced, I made a list of all the things he said I couldn't, shouldn't, or wouldn't do -- and I started doing them ALL. I started with painting the china cabinet a gorgeous, bold teal color, went on a solo trip to Paris, ran a race, made art for fun... I learned to trust myself again. 🩵

my step mother LOVED to collect crystal glass ware. she died and I got all the glass. every once in a while I go to storage and pick a few pieces to smash. Just for fun. as a little treat. I fucking hated that woman 😁

I paid an Etsy witch to make my ex feel the same pain I did. Very therapeutic 😂 not recommended by my therapist as I’m supposed to learn to let things go and stop harbouring grudges. That sounds like something I’ll do in my 40s 😂

Listen as a woman who went through 2 divorces, and became a homeless, unemployed single mom, before finding the greatest man I’ve ever known, buying a home, going to law school, and starting my own firm… I first autopsied my life to see why I chose the kind of men I did and what signs could help me avoid making that same choice again. Then I had an epic hoe phase in the between wherein I was not only the worst first date for asking theeee most not first date questions, a commitment to being unapologetically true to who I am, and brutally cutting off anyone at the mere hint of a red flag, but I also had a *ahem* LOT of fun as the girl who got married at 19 so I wouldn’t go to hell. Now, it was a short lived hoe phase, but it did serve a valuable purpose and I cannot recommend it strongly enough. Lol.

Makeover, work out, house projects, projects,no contact with ex but if you have to see the person for any reason never let them see you down, pretend to be ok.

As a therapist, get out there and try things you’ve always wanted to try. Be a little impulsive. Stay out til 3am. Travel. Decorate tf out of your house. Be a lil hoe if that’s calling your name babes. You got this

I’m a therapist and I love these comments. I think the ho phase has a lot to do with deconstructing purity culture and other old values you may have held before marriage. Remember, you got married when your brain was still incomplete without a fully formed frontal lobe. As a result most people (esp women) who marry young have never dated using their OWN values. They had the values they swallowed whole from their upbringing. 🧚🏻♀️💜👑

The most healing thing I did was hire a BADDIE for a lawyer. My divorce is still new and it’s so awful, but having this fantastic, fierce, funny, and loyal woman in my corner is life-changing.
