@ink_to_the_soul: After my second jerry art, i got another request to make one featuring confident jerry and healthy morty. First of; - I ideate: for this, i needed a pose that would sell their coolness and after thinking for a while and having a couple of ideas, i settled for one whereby there'll be an explosion behind them to give impact. - After my ideation, i source references and i make a draft of how it'll look, placement and composition . Then i make my sketch. After which i clean up my sketch and add base colors. - Next is to draw the explosion behind them. I drew a regular colored explosion then i wanted to switch up the colors. I remember an iconic color in the rick and morty franchise is green so i wanted to change the explosion to green. I merged the orange explosion layer i already made, color balanced it and changed the hue towards green. Tinkered with some gradient maps for it (I'm still learning how to use those) added some motion lines, specks of dust and then radial blurred the explosion. This gave it that motion effect making it less static. - Now I continued the character and using a screen layer added green light coming from behind them using an airbrush and lasso tool. This way the lights were added in gradients. Now since this piece is set in the day, i hit a dilemma; everything was looking too bright asf😂 i needed to distinguish my foreground and mid ground and background. So what do i do next? - Since an explosion is happening behind them, the light is strong so theyll be in shadows so i added a multiply layer where the lights aren't touching and since i wanted the focus to be on the characters, i further blurred the background explosion and added a sorta vignette on the forground. This way, u see the explosion but ur focus lays more on the characters. - Added smaller shadows. Merged everything, color balanced it all and voila!
