If I lived in England in a place nicknamed the Potteries and I worked as a dipper at a pot bank (pottery factory) I would grab a cup dip it in a tank of grey cold liquid called glaze then place on a pine plank to dry, it dries white then completely clear when fired in a kiln. Later in life realising that tank was full of glass and lead!

The plate is probably reacting bc the white paint has lead, but the protective clear glaze is keeping it safe on the edges, but in the middle (where it would be scratched due to forks and knives being used) the coating is damaged so the lead paint is exposed

Lwk knowing both are probably the same paint I wouldnt feel safe drinking from the teapot even if the glaze is still intact
