I finished reading 1 & 2 Corinthians, and instead of highlighting verses that answered questions, I found myself highlighting verses that revealed them. I've realized something uncomfortable. I say I believe my identity is in Christ. I say I believe I was bought with a price. I say I believe my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. But if I'm honest, there are still moments when I measure my worth by a completely different standard.… probably why Corinthians felt so personal…lame. Paul was writing to believers living in a culture obsessed with image, status, sexuality, influence, and self. A culture where bodies were objectified, pleasure was celebrated, and people were constantly tempted to find their identity in things that could never satisfy….sound familiar? Not much has changed. 🙄 Paul consistently drew boundaries. We often think of boundaries as God's way of keeping us from something…but what if they're actually God's way of protecting us from believing lies about ourselves. The lie that being desired is the same as being loved…that attention is the same as significance…that if enough people admire us, we'll finally feel secure…that our bodies exist primarily to be consumed instead of cherished. I don't think those lies only affect the people who buy into them. They affect the rest of us too. Because comparison has a way of quietly discipling our hearts. It whispers, “You'd be enough if you looked more like her.” “If you were prettier.” “If you were younger.” “If you turned a few more heads.” And without realizing it, we begin asking the world to answer questions only God was ever meant to answer. But Paul reminds us that we “were bought with a price.” Not,

But Paul reminds us that we “were bought with a price.” Not, "You became valuable when someone wanted you…when you were admired…when you looked the part.” You were bought. Your worth was settled at Calvary. I've also been thinking about how often Christians talk about holiness as though it's mostly about what we shouldn't do. But what if holiness is first about remembering who we belong to? I don’t think God's boundaries are fences meant to restrict us. I think they're reminders that we are too valuable to be treated, or to treat ourselves, as commodities. I'm still wrestling with all of this. But I know the more I read Scripture, the less convinced I become that our culture knows how to value people. We've become experts at consuming one another. God calls us to something infinitely more beautiful. To see one another first as image bearers. To remember that every person carries an eternal soul. And to live like people who really believe we were bought with a price. Anywho…those are my unsolicited thoughts of the day… #fyp #christiantiktok #momsover40 #respect
