parmesan is widely faked because it can only be obtained officially from a small region is Italy. and if that cheese was plastic it would've melted. American cheese just contains a small amount of actual cheese (cheddar/Colby jack), the rest is milk, flavorings, and emulsifying salts, which is why it's dirt cheap and has a very faint cheese flavor. stop fearmongering cheese, there are bigger fish to fry.
