@tigray_memorial: When Ethiopian government forces, Amhara forces, and Eritrean forces invaded Tigray from all directions in November 2020, Tigrayan authorities—who had not anticipated Eritrea's entry into the war—repeatedly declared that "Tigray would be the graveyard of invading forces." Many Ethiopians dismissed the statement. Just eight months later, after mobilizing thousands of young people, Tigrayan forces launched a counteroffensive that routed multiple Ethiopian divisions and led to the collapse of the Ethiopian army in Tigray. The New York Times correspondent Declan Walsh and photographer Finbarr O'Reilly were in Tigray when they witnessed defeated ENDF soldiers being paraded through Mekelle, Tigray's capital.
