@osisi75: Ayaka Ndi Igbo(Ozo Ugeze Ugezu) .In Igbo culture, if you did not pay a woman dowry and impregnant her.If that child is born and another man comes to marry and pays dowry on the woman head, that man that pay the dowry on the woman head, owns the child..The biological father can never claim or own the child again..That is pure Igbo culture and it is almost applicable in majority cultures in different races.#africa #igboamaka #spirituality #friends #fyp
Just because that is the custom in your village and what your forefathers taught you, does not make it a universal principle across all of Igboland. Igbo customs are not entirely uniform and many communities recognize a man’s child as his legitimate offspring whether or not there was a formal marriage to the mother. Paternity, not the marital status of the parents, is what matters.
The only part of your submission I find troubling is your haste to dismiss anyone who disagrees with you as “non-Igbo.” By doing so, you implicitly claim exclusive ownership of Igbo identity while reducing others to migrants or outsiders. That is neither logical nor historically sound.
No responsible Igbo man abandons his own seed for others to raise simply because he was not married to the child’s mother. If we were to apply your own reasoning, would it then be fair to conclude that because you reject this position, you are not truly Igbo but rather a descendant of immigrants from Igala-land considering the well-documented historical traditions linking some ancestors of the people of Enugwu-Ukwu to that region?
I don’t believe such a conclusion would be fair. So why is it fair for you to question the Igbo identity of others simply because they hold a different understanding of Igbo customary practice?

If you did not pay dowry and she gives birth, the child automatically belong to her father. if another man come and pay her dowry then the man is her husband.

I am in this situation currently married with 4kids
but previously had a baby girl with my ex girlfriend whom I sorted all medical bills till she delivered , fast forward to 5months after she left and since 2017 no show, they said I didn't pay her dowry... I met my wife, we dated and she got pregnant.. and my inlaw told me before hand that is should marry their daughter else if she gives birth it's not my baby... Iarried her anyways and it's been fun
