I’m pretty sure there was rule saying the top 6 teams have to split up. This is called seeding it help save the Better nations for the later rounds. This isn’t new it been around for some time even on club level

Its so top teams dont get grouped with each other early in the tournament. Imagine multiple groups of death, forcibly eliminating multiple top rank teams early. This would leave the advancing top teams with a pool of more lower rank teams to verse in the bracket. Obviously the remaining top teams are more likely to win the WC if they’re competing against more low rank teams. Doing it like that only results in an adequate tournament, which the whole point of is to find the best team in the world. Is this understandable?
