@raventhross: ๐ THE BORROWED EARTH ๐ A song about the debt no one is willing to name. ๐ต Streaming everywhere โ link in bio ๐ Save on Spotify, wenn der Song dich erreicht. ๐ Save if it moves you. โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ "We did not own this borrowed earth, we did not pay for what it's worth. We took the gold, we took the seed and called it ours by right of need." โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ "The Borrowed Earth" is the fourth track on the EP "Bones of Empire" โ and perhaps the most uncomfortable. It is a reckoning with what the North still owes the South: the centuries of extracted labor, stolen resources, cotton, cane, rubber, grain โ and the bodies in the hold that never made the ledger. Not a song of blame. A song of accounting. The music moves slowly, deliberately โ like an old ledger being read aloud. Fingerpicked acoustic guitar carries the verses. The Fiddler tells the story with weathered restraint; The Wraith answers from a great distance, as if singing from the shore that was left behind. A cello drones underneath, a bodhrรกn marks the slow march of debt. There is no easy resolution. No promise that the debt will ever be paid. Only the quiet, insistent truth of the refrain: "The earth was borrowed, never owned, the harvest reaped, the seed enthroned. Pay back the debt before we burn. The borrowed earth still waits its turn." For listeners of Wardruna, Heilung, Nick Cave, Hozier, and dark folk traditions that speak plainly about power. ๐ From the EP "Bones of Empire" โ out now. ๐ฒ Sister EP: "The Last Forest" โ out now. ๐ฆโโฌ Two EPs.
