And people don’t understand that legally her children were legitimate. Because they were acknowledged and accepted by Laenor and Viserys. Blood wise they are bastards but legally they are not

also her children were acknowledged by laenor, the alleged father which makes them trueborns in the eyes of the law
besides that, viserys told jace when he was little that the iron throne would someday be his (i can't remember the exact quote) which means he acknowledged them as rhaenyra's heir and therefor trueborn son.

Also in the drafts of the story Rhaenyra was always usurped. Regardless of who she was married to, if she had children or not and if they were legitimate or not

It was viserys who pushed her into this. He refused to marry Laena, knew he had to make it up to Corly’s, after constantly slighting his house. He knew laenor was gay, along with most of the realm and insisted Rhaenyra was to be his heir. The pressure that Rhaenyra was put under to have heirs and strengthen her claim was mounting. While I think she should’ve found someone with Valyrian features, he constantly put his children in situation were they were pushed to the brink. Two things can be true, Rhaneyra wanted to be lovers with Harwin and she felt pressured to have heirs.
