@kellycnctue: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗯 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹. Watch the defending team lift a ball that never clears the net players. It drops right into their strike zone around the service line, and at this level that is an automatic overhead. The attacker needs zero power — the ball is sitting in the perfect window, so he steps under it, jumps, and finishes into the open court. It gets punished at every level because of geometry. A lob only helps you if it forces the net player to turn, run back, and hit while moving away from the court. A short one does the opposite: it hands him a still ball above net height with your whole court open in front of him. Beginners get smashed by it, pros get smashed by it — the margin just shrinks as you climb. Spot the danger early: if you're scrambling off the glass or stretched wide and can't get both height and depth, don't gamble on the lob. When you can lob, aim over the outside shoulder of the net player, deep enough to die near the back glass. When you can't, play low to their feet instead — a controlled block beats a floaty ball that sits up every time. To train it, feed yourself off the back wall and lob into a cone in the last metre of the court; if you can't land ten deep in a row, keep the ball low until you can. Would you go for the lob here, or keep it low?
