As an adoptive parent, the yearning for bio dad is totally natural. I’ve seen it with many of my kids and so many others. Never fight it. It’s not their fault they are in such a position. Just support the kid. Step dad needs to stop being an asshole.

Or maybe he's upset because he sees her continuously reaching out to someone who keeps hurting her and he feels powerless to protect her and he's frustrated

The boyfriend can’t emotionally regulate himself and is resorting to emotional abuse (the silent treatment is abuse and he’s apparently fine abusing a child as well as his partner).

You’re better off without a partner rather than someone who’s not healthy for your child

He should speak to a therapist. I have resentment when my deadbeat ex husband shows up and decides to be a father. I feel resentful that all the sacrifices I’ve made aren’t acknowledged and he gets to be appreciated as a parent after being a negligent and abusive father for so long. But I know that’s a feeling that I need to keep from my children at all costs and find somewhere else to vent it. The resentment towards bio dad is valid and real but that should never be transferred onto or even reflected to the child.

I don’t understand not bending the non-safety rules for circumstances. As an adult I bend rules as the time, why can’t I let my kid?

Of course she has feelings about bio-dad. But, when she grows up, she will know who was there for her. It’s unfortunate this guy this guy isn’t mature enough to realize that.

As a adult child of abandoned from a father myself, a child will Always want to have contact and want their father. Unfortunately that means no matter what the circumstances (obi unless serious abuse) she is doing the right thing.

All of what you said, but also, the "silent treatment" is emotional manipulation, and if the relationship is examined, the questioner will undoubtedly find more such behaviors. Perhaps her partner is frustrated because the child's relationship is completely out of his control and he is trying to find ways to remedy that.

therapist here. mom needs to set some major boundaries with her boyfriend around what parenting he’s allowed to partake in and what parenting should be left to mom only. It’s her child. While the inconsistent contact with dad is harming the child, the child should still be allowed contact w/ dad if mom wants. Therapy will help the child navigate that. The worst thing for the child is having two parents (mom and bf) on 2 different pages. Boyfriend needs therapy as well to develop tools to help him emotionally regulate. If he becomes this angry and upset over child talking to dad, he needs to take a step back and work on himself. Though he’s help raising the child, he’s not her biological father. His emotional explosions and lack of emotional regulation will end up harming the child more than her father not being there. Boundaries, boundaries, boundaries.

He needs to respect you in that this was a man that you once loved and wanted to build a lifetime with. It didn’t work out for whatever reason. But he needs to respect you and your choices. The child will always crave a relationship with bio Dad, that’s just being human.
