@stilleaworkinprogress: Does raising wages raise prices (inflation)? Mom breaks down the myths we’ve been fed by corporations trying to justify their exploitation of employees. As a business owner, here’s her advice for how to run an ethical company: 💸 Pay your employees well 🏥 Give them benefits (healthcare and retirement) 🛒 Costco’s millionaire cashier is proof that corporate ethics are a winning business model. #economics #businesstips #creatorsearchinsights

The CEO of Costco limits his income in order to pay his employees. He's not hurting financially in any way. Costco makes plenty of money. Employees are happy and they earn a living wage. Every corporation should be following this example.

Unskilled labor is just a term made up to divide the working class, all jobs require skill.

That’s not entirely accurate, when I delivered bread to Costco we had multiple price increases and the manager in 2 different stores both told me they got pay increases. It might have been a coincidence but I don’t think I it was.

And also, why are we okay with companies raising the price of milk instead of their CEO and other higher ups taking a pay cut/not getting a raise? They don’t need three yachts and two summer homes, they need their employees to be able to keep the lights on.

If your company can't afford to pay workers a livable wage, then you don't have a viable business model.

Costco caps their profit to 13.5%.
They CAN make more, they choose not to.

Historically, the argument that higher wages will result in price increases was an old union busting tactic used by company towns

lol you use Costco a multibillion dollar business as an example lmao why not use that same logic and explain it for mom and pop stores which are probably 3 times more prevalent than chains

ALL BUSINESSES used to pay EVERYONE a living wage.
In the 80s corporations realized they could hire hourly workers at a lower wage promptly fired all their experienced labor those that had been doing those jobs since the 50s had pensions and vacation pay as well as whatever other benefits they used to offer. and replaced them with unskilled hourly workers

Yes but Costco makes 80% of there money on memberships not selling products. They actually lose money on some products but they don’t care because memberships pay their profits. So this is a horrible example because it’s misleading and not true for the rest of the industry.

Friend of mine suggested making a system where based on the entire compensation package of your highest paid employees (usually your C-suite people) vs your bottom employee compensation package.. it would dictate your corporate tax. Wanna pay less tax? Shrink the difference. Wanna make more money at the top? Pay more corporate tax. And there is no “we donate money to cut taxes”. The only way to cut taxes is to shrink the gap. See what happens.
