Tiny air bubbles can occasionally enter an IV line, and in most cases, your body is able to absorb these small amounts without causing harm. That's one reason healthcare professionals don't panic every time they see a tiny bubble. The real concern is when a much larger amount of air enters the bloodstream rapidly. This can lead to an air embolism, where air blocks normal blood flow and, in severe cases, affects the lungs, heart, or brain. That's exactly why nurses and doctors carefully prime IV tubing, remove air from syringes, and check every connection before giving medications or fluids. Those safety steps are there to keep the risk extremely low.
