They are human beings, not just immigration cases. Being detained and separated from your family can cause enormous stress and emotional distress, especially when people are worried about how their families are surviving, how their children are continuing their education, and when they have lost their source of income. Proper nutritious food, adequate medical care, psychological support, opportunities for exercise and fresh air, and meaningful daily activities should be basic standards of humane treatment. People in detention should not be treated as if they no longer have basic human needs or dignity.
