Continuity. I recently learned that many shows eat out of takeout containers because you can't see the food. That way, when they piece all the shots together (sometimes out of order), the food doesn't make it obvious.

yea me too i always watch actors play with their food in shows lol and in public scenes watching the background actors play with random things too like pretending to be holding a phone when nothing is in their hands or picking up food and picking it down 4 times lol
