I’m a horticulturalist, so I work outdoors most days. I wear factor 50 sunscreen late spring to autumn, hat (and sunglasses when not working with others). People will often think it’s odd, because I’m black. But being black and having darker skin, doesn’t absolve me from leathery skin, sun damage, sun burn and skin cancer. So I use protection.

The reason why is stereotypes. Darker colored skin Asian women are considered peasants and farm workers while lighter colored are educated and sophisticated. Hence women, starting from earlier on, protecting their skin.

Why do you think Asians traditionally wear kimonos and have parasols with them? It protects their skin from the sun. Asian cultures have always prioritized youthful looking skin.
