I understand the idea behind this edit, but people sometimes think that Walter changed in the sense that he became a completely different person. The show, however, presents his story from the very beginning as the journey of a man whose life has been wasted a teacher whose existence is a chain of failures piling up one after another. Walter did not become a different person in the traditional sense; he was always Heisenberg. The cancer diagnosis and the possibility of transformation were merely the trigger that awakened that part of his ego that had been buried for years. It is sad, but any acts of sympathy toward his entire character arc (and I want to emphasize the word entire) are strange and, from a moral standpoint, wrong.
