and you really feel the difference once you have an actual sarcastic silly friend and realize that sarcasm and jokes don't have to feel hostile they can actually just be funny when the person making the jokes actually respects you and likes you

I’ve unfortunately had to learn the hard way that most ppl are just normal sensitive instead of over sensitive because I’ve become numb to mocking and sarcasm. If I’m very comfortable with someone I will mock or tease them but to me it’s endearing and to them I’m just being a bully. I also expect the same mocking and sarcasm from them though so it’s all unhealthy and confusing.

I absolutely blame some of my anxiety issues on the fact that my dad loved to "play pranks" on me where the joke was that he startled or scared me and me being scared was funny

I’m forever grateful for a college professor pointing this out!! I grew up in it but could never quite put my finger on why I hated it. I thought I was just “too sensitive.” When she said this, at first I wanted to defend the mocking/sarcasm but instead I sat with it. Soooo glad I did! Forever grateful she called it out for what it was!!

And when I called them out it was "well we do it to everyone else too!" yeah the difference is you stop when they call it out, but when I call it out I'm "too sensitive"
