Sometimes ehn, praise and worship can disgrace somebody if you don't arrange it well. You will stand on stage, hold the mic, smile like an innocent angel... and still not know what to sing next. It is about intentional order that makes the whole session sweet, smooth, and spirit filled... not scattered like jollof cooked by a confused chef. 1. Start With the Temperature of the Room You don't just carry a heavy worship song and land on the congregation like thunder. Relax. Check their mood. Are they still strolling in? Are they still trying to find their chairs? Are the ushers still chasing children around? Begin with something light, something that says, Come in, relax, God is here. You know those songs that feel like morning breeze? Yes, start there. 2. Move Like Someone That Knows Where They Are Going Don't jump from slow to fast to slow to I feel like crying to let's dance haba. Move gradually. Build it. A good session is like climbing stairs one step at a time. Light praise → mid praise → high praise. Soft worship → deep worship → intimate worship. Let it rise small small... like garri soaking in warm water. 3. Arrange Songs Like a Story Praise and worship is storytelling. You are telling the story of how God lifts, saves, loves, strengthens, carries, restores, shocks, surprises, and overwhelms His people. Don't pick random songs like you are shopping in the market. Choose songs that connect, that flow, that explain something together. Make the congregation feel like they are on a journey... ...not a motor park. 4. Know Your Key Before You Embarrass Your Ancestors Nothing pains like starting a worship song in a key your throat cannot carry. You will stretch. You will force. You will cough. You will now look back at the keyboardist like he is the one that set you up. Before you go on stage, know your key. Practice your transitions. Let your voice rest. Drink water. Don't be doing I can handle it my dear, sometimes you cannot. 5. Plan for the Holy Spirit, Not Chaos People sometimes confuse spontaneous with unprepared. The Holy Spirit moves beautifully when you are ready. Prepare your songs. Arrange your list. Practice your flow. Then when the Holy Spirit moves, you will have the structure to follow gracefully not like someone that forgot their assignment at home. 6. Read the Room While Leading Sometimes, the Spirit says Stay here. Sometimes, the people are not ready to move where you want to take them. Use your eyes. Use your senses. Don't drag people into a dimension they didn't prepare for at all. If the congregation is rising, follow. If they are sinking deeper, follow.
