@lifewithsonduren: Sikhs have been wearing their Kirpans for decades without issue at gyms by concealing it under their clothing to ensure people around them don’t feel uneasy and unsafe (a natural reaction for many in Canada). All Sikhs I speak to do this to one degree or another to ensure they cause no undue hardship which is part of their beliefs. The other question is, does a gym have the right to have blanket policies to deny objects like daggers and knives regardless of political affiliation for the safety of their members?

A knife remains a knife; anyone is welcome to practice their religion—and wear religious items—at home. But here in Germany, it is and remains prohibited; if you are caught with one, regardless of your religion, there will be legal consequences—plain and simple.

I’m Scottish and not allowed to carry a sgian dubh outside of a ceremonial situation. So this special treatment needs to stop. End of the day it is a weapon and should be treated as such.
