@birds__bees: 💙💙 BOY MOMS 💙💙 A question we get a LOT at Birds & Bees is how to explain to little boys what is happening to their penis when it’s not in its “normal state”. You catch my drift?! How do you answer their questions? Or how do you explain to his sister when she asks about it? While this is a normal behavior, it can make boys - and their siblings and mom for that matter (!) confused or concerned. ✨ First, we want to stay calm. We encourage parents to be MEDICAL - MATTER OF FACT - MOVE ON ✨ This is a normal body function for healthy males that does happen in babies and toddlers. We don’t need to be emotional, overreact or attach a sexual explanation. ✨ “Oh sweetheart, that’s completely normal. The blood is just rushing to your penis. Just wait a minute and it will go back to the way it was. Do you want a turkey sandwich or a PBJ?” You can use the same explanation for any curious sibling as well. ✨ What we don’t want to do is create shame. A reaction of SHOCK can lead to SHAME. That applies to our verbal (tone of voice) and nonverbal (that horrified facial expression 😦😳😱) reactions. Remember this is normal. Remain calm. Be MEDICAL and MATTER OF FACT and MOVE ON. 💙 Let’s hear it for the boys! TAG your boy moms below.
