I read her autobiography. It was a beautiful love story, but his manager ripping him off millions of dollars (forcing him to tour all the time to get back on track financially), and definitely his alcoholism ruined them. He finally stopped drinking with his current wife. Took him decades to get it together.

People did not freak out at all. At the time, Billy was a huge star, Christie was a down to earth model and I was thrilled for them, as most people were.
