I've always been a VERY sensitive person boy. As a kid I used to have nightmares when my mom would watch true crime documentaries, Americans most wanted ect. Even now my mother can watch true crime TV shows 24/7 and it doesn't effect her at all. If I even watch them I'm waking up at 4am in the morning crying about a woman that passed I didn't even know. I really hate being a severe empath 😭

but there are benefits!! if you watch a true crime documentary and you end up in the same situation as the deceased one, you know what NOT to do.

These aren’t negative impacts, it’s just how we have to behave in our current world. Thank god for true crime for warning us

it depends what true crime content you consume. these shows like mfm and others with host dialogue i think kind of make light of these topics. Casefile however does a lot of research and gives so much respect to the victims involved and honors their stories.

True crime can actually help women be aware of potential danger and real world scenarios.

I’ve been watching true crime videos and documentaries since I was 13, non of this has happened, I became MORE empathetic because I’ve been watching it, also is this a way of you saying you don’t want anyone to know stories about REAL people, and you don’t want the public to help solve a unsolved crime, and you want every single victims stories to never be told, because you seem to think that you are saying that you think that everyone becomes to desensitised, paranoid, and having a high sense of danger, I get that you’re a psychologist, but that doesn’t mean you you every single persons brain that watches true crime

I agree. After consuming a lot of true crime, it seems like your perspective changes. You don’t become immune to tragedy, but your brain starts thinking, “I’ve heard worse,” because you’ve been exposed to so many extreme cases. It has made me more alert and suspicious of situations that I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about before
