Actually, people calling an uma "wife" refer to the character in the game (or the anime), not the actual horse. So, even if the actual gender is male but the "wife" call is actually refer to its girl character in the game (or the anime). So the point is, they're waifuing the fictional character, not the real horse. Sorry for my bad English.
