@instituteofhumananatomy: Your shoulder blade is barely attached to your skeleton. Seriously. 🦴 Peel back the trapezius and you'll find the scapula — one of the most unusual bones in the body. Most bones are anchored by multiple ligamentous attachments. The scapula? It has one dinky ligamentous connection, at the AC joint. That's it. Everything else holding it in place is muscle: trapezius, rhomboid major and minor, levator scapulae, and several more you can't see from this view — the scapular sling. That trade-off is the whole point. Less bony anchoring means more freedom: elevate, depress, retract, protract, and rotate upward and downward.
