Hiiiii i have theory We know from season 2 of *Stranger Things* that Kali can’t use her powers from a distance; she can only use them up close. So Kali couldn’t save El from the lab remotely. But what if when Kali got shot, El used part of her powers to stop the wound from bleeding so Kali wouldn’t die and would be okay, and she used the rest of her powers to destroy Vecna? (El can use her powers from a distance) Meanwhile, while El was fighting, Kali created an illusion of herself in her place and made herself invisible. She secretly crawled to the gate to Hawkins, and because the mind-blocking devices weren’t ready yet, she slipped through that secret exit, where she waited for El. Then, because the gate from that exit was nearby Kali entered El’s mind and told her the plan: that she would make El invisible too, put her illusion there, and then El could crawl to that secret exit to join her. After that, El would close the gate, they would escape together, and now they are living together
