@reshgala__: Sharing my tips on intensive planting with you today… Only 5 things to consider when it comes to intensive planting: 1. Soil Health Compost, worm castings, cover crops are your friend. 2. Size of Plant Large/ tall plants in the middle, medium sized plants next to them and short plants on the edges or borders. Use trellises for tall, vining crops to grow vertically, like peas, cucumbers, tomatoes and pole beans, and free up space below to grow more food. 3. Sunlight Requirement Short, shade loving crops like lettuce, cilantro, arugula can be grown in the canopy of large plants like cabbages, broccoli and tomatoes. 4. Companion Planting Grow lots of herbs and flowers for natural pest control and to attract pollinators and beneficial insects like ladybugs and lacewings. I love marigolds, calendula, basil, cilantro, rosemary, thyme, oregano, bunching onions, sage, leeks and chives to deter pests. 5. Succession Planting Always carry a packet of seeds with you in the garden to plant in empty spots or after a large plant like cabbage or broccoli is harvested. In summer I direct sow seeds for zinnias, melons, arugula and bush beans, while in fall, I sow lettuce and radishes to have a continuous supply of food. *The only exception I make to planting large crops in the middle is zucchini or squash - they can grow massive - so I plant them in the corners of my raised beds. Hope you’ll incorporate these strategies to grow a garden that’s beautiful, packed & thriving! 🙌 #gardeningtips #intensiveplanting #growfood #vegetablegarden #DIY
