@instituteofhumananatomy: Not all hernias hurt. But the ones that do can turn into an emergency fast. ⚠️ Some hernias are completely asymptomatic — just a small bulge near the belly button or groin. If it's reducible, it slides right back into the abdominal cavity (some people push theirs back in themselves). In those cases, surgical repair with mesh is a conversation between patient and physician. But pain changes the picture. Mild discomfort is one thing — moderate to severe pain is a warning sign that the hernia may be incarcerated, meaning it's stuck in the opening it pushed through and can't be reduced. That's when strangulation becomes the concern: the trapped tissue gets pinched hard enough to cut off its own blood supply. No blood in, no blood out — extreme pain, and tissue that can die. At that point it's a medical emergency. 🔬#tiktoklearningcampaign #hernia #anatomy #humanbody #abdominalwall #cadaverlab #generalsurgery #inguinalhernia #medicalemergency #anatomyandphysiology #surgery #medstudent #physiology #healthscience #anatomyeducation #iohaanatomy Follow for more anatomical awesomeness

@IOHA I forgot to ask you about appendicitis, I thought I had it and the doctor sent me for an ultrasound in the ER. it was painful and I felt like I needed it removed asap. During the ultrasound he pushed down harder because I am fat and as he rolled it up from my belt line it was instantly relieved and the pain went away.
