He really messed up but at the same time, it makes sense. The point of the show is to llustrate social determinism. No matter how many great opportunities we give him, he'll sabotage them because he's caught up in a cycle of social reproduction. I think the show is really realistic in this regard because it's truly rare to break free from a situation like the Gallaghers'
