@henryfudgeofficial: The Chinese property market has been falling for 35 months straight, coming out of a bubble from evergrande. China owns all its land and still built a property bubble….how does that work? Here is part 1 on china it’s a big big one. #china #economics #rentierblackhole #propertymarket #macroeconomics
I remember when American leftist propagandists were praising how fast China was able to construct these apartment structures and skyscrapers. Now we see the downside, they're either built in useless locations, demand is low, and capital speculation is so restricted it becomes completely irrational, like Bitcoin.

Myles Observes The End :
Xi actually wrote a paper a long while ago condemning land speculation. The crackdown started around the time it became obvious Evergrande was a problem.

A decade ago, real estate speculation was basically a Ponzi scheme. Developers would fund the current development in large part by selling the next. That’s the bubble China intentionally popped that broke Evergrande. Also, ghost cities is kind of Western propaganda. It was really advance building for demand and supposed ghost cities like Pudong just aren’t now. Buying foreign real estate was another escape to China’s capital controls too, which created bubbles in major Western cities, particularly Vancouver

president Xi pop it, he famously said homes are for living, not for speculating. they dont want a sky high property price because its gonna hurt affordability. for a country like china who's home ownership is more than 90%, you actually believe its housing market is going to fall without cause ? its because china wants it to fall.

The Chinese stock market is nothing but a casino, where the "banker" - the government-controlled capital - manipulates things behind the scenes to reap profits from ordinary retail investors. It makes it impossible for ordinary people to even consider putting their money there; they can only deposit it in banks

On their property, they have learnt from Japan. More or less, they try to manage speculative bubbles and intervene before it becomes a problem. The west runs on free market and allow the bubble to run till it becomes a problem, and solve it.

Broken Glass Country :
I think the real estate economy is being over demonized. The real estate market is instrumental in propelling the rise of Chinese consumer electronics needed in housing. In addition, the land finance system is key for the regional dynamism of Chinese provinces and cities as they compete to attract investors and residents

How does this compare overall for the average Chinese citizen? It seems like the average Chinese citizen is more likely to be able to own their own home and is now getting more money that they can use for things rather than it all going on rent like in other western countries. is this completely off base?

To me this just reads as an extremely strong argument for the superiority of planned economies. They pop bubbles without destroying the economy, they make housing more affordable for the proletariat, they know capital will create crises of overproduction but they manage it… sounds great.

The problem is, China also have corrupt powerful people in the ruling class, who wants to take a piece of the pie. You give them a bit of freedom and they will take the biscuit. Best solution, the state builds, rents out and sells houses. Enough profit to cover material cost inflation but not enough to entice property speculation.

I made a post on rednote asking if people were able to afford their own homes. I got thousands of replies and most people were saying no, unless their family help them or they buy in the countryside. So that’s interesting.
